AARP Driver Safety Program

JFS will be hosting the AARP Driver Safety Program beginners course (8 hours) on Wednesday, January 28 and Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM each day. This course is designed for people 50 and older, but drivers of all ages are welcome to attend. Fee of $14 (general public) or $12 (if AARP member) due first day of class and made payable to AARP. Pre-registration required. To register, call 302-4678-9411, extension 112 or email rfletcher@jfs.delaware

 

Prerequisites for the Class:

  • Have a valid driver’s license

  • First time attending a certified defensive driving course

  • Over three years since attended renewal certified course

AARP Tax-Aide

Free tax help for taxpayers with low-and middle-income, with special attention to those age 60 and older, will be available at Jewish Family Services on the following Mondays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM: February 2, March 2, and April 6, 2009.

SILVER Initiative

JFS along with partners-Brandywine Senior Center at the Claymont Community Center, Christiana Care Health Services, Fox Rehabilitation, University of Delaware School of Nursing and Wilmington Senior Center-held a special event on November 20, 2008 at Jewish Family Services of Delaware announcing SILVER funded by the Administration on Aging.  Over 60 people were in attendance to  hear how this program will improve community living for the older residents of Delaware. The SILVER Initiative (Support for Independent Living and a Vital, Energetic Retirement) is an innovative program coordinating a broad range of social and health care services to support aging-in-place communities in New Castle County.

This year GEM has added some exciting new programs. MAZEL TOV JFS of DELAWARE!

The Association of Jewish Family & Children's Agencies presented Jewish Family Services of Delaware the KOVOD AWARD for Excellence in Website Design at its annual meeting in Philadelphia, PA on April 14, 2008.

The Council on Accreditation approved the reaccreditation of JFS of Delaware as a provider of high quality services, effective through September 30th, 2010.
